How component manufacturers can take advantage of environmental standards as a competitive edge

The labelling of RoHS, REACH, EMAS, WEEE and ISO 14001 compliant components in eCATALOGsolutions supports component selection in engineering

Environmental standards

Environmental protection is also an issue in the development of new technical products in engineering. The European Directive 2011/65/EU, called RoHS II, regulates the use of certain hazardous materials in electrical and electronic devices. Since 22 July 2017, the so-called RoHS Directive also pertains to mechanical engineering and construction as well as monitoring and control instruments, such as smoke and motion detectors installed in industrial applications.

The objective is to banish problematic components from devices and ultimately getting rid of electronic waste. Hence RoHS is meanwhile a vital issue for component manufacturers.

Environmental protection

Already during the design phase, engineers and product developers have to ensure that all the components being used comply with the RoHS Directive. This is the only way the designed product can be compliant. Therefore it pays for component manufacturers to label their digital product data. Components which clearly inform about their compliance to environmental standards, such as RoHS, are given priority in the planning. This results in an increase in sales.

Labelling within the digital catalog

RoHS labeling in PARTsolutions

CADENAS offers component manufacturers the possibility to explicitly point out RoHS compliant components in their Electronic Product Catalogs and thus make their components more attractive. Engineers are then saved the work of looking for information, without tedious and time-consuming research on the Internet, in documentations and without unnecessary inquiries to the manufacturer.
