1.6.1.1.2.12.  Full-text search: Number search with units (explicitly and implicitly)

In V12, searching and filtering also works with inch values.

Examples:

  • Numerical values are indexed in their base unit. Now the can also be searched with a specified unit as search operator in brackets []. (Works with all units specified in the configuration file unitbase.cfg.)

    • Searching for 5 will find both 5 mm and 5 INCH.

    • Searching for 25.4[mm] will find both 25.4 mm and 1 Inch.

    • Searching for 1 [Inch] will find both 1 Inch and 25.4 mm.

  • You can search values in inch notation (e.g. 3 1/2)

A notation as fraction will be treated as inch by default and in the background, a conversion to mm will happen, so that mm values can also be found.

    1/2

    1 1/2

38.1 mm and 1 1/2 inch are equivalent.

38.1 mm and 1 1/2 inch are equivalent.

  • If you want to search for "mm" with a fraction, you have to add "mm" in square brackets.

    [Note]Note

Only if the unit is explicitly stated, searching is exclusively numerical, otherwise textual.

    1/2 [mm]

  • When wanting to explicitly search for Inch you have to add "inch" in square brackets.

    [Note]Note

Only if the unit is explicitly stated, searching is exclusively numerical, otherwise textual.

    0.5 [inch]

  • Also with inch, you can search "from-to".

    1/2 - 3/4

    1 1/2 - 1 3/4

  • When using from-to statements the unit has to be added behind. If the last value is an Inch value (fraction), the statement can be cancelled (see last example), because the last token specifies the unit.

    1 1/2 [inch] - 1.75 [inch]

So also the following search leads to Inch results.

    1.5 - 1 3/4

  • Inch values can also be part of order numbers, for example.
