Parker-Hannifin Receives 2016 Manufacturing Leadership Award for Innovative Use of CADENAS’ Strategic Part Management PARTsolutions

Parker-Hannifin, a global industrial manufacturing leader based in Cleveland Ohio, has been honored by Frost Publishing, receiving a 2016 Manufacturing Leadership Award for their forward-thinking implementation of CADENAS’ Strategic Part Management PARTsolutions. CADENAS are the architects of the platform and key consultants used to implement the initiative.

“With this strategic parts management implementation we are helping Parker Hannifin achieve a key organizational goal, reducing engineering time by fostering reuse of components throughout Parker Divisions,” says Tim Thomas, CADENAS PARTsolutions, LLC. CEO. “Every time a part is reused, using the Strategic Parts Management PARTsolutions, Parker is saving money and time through the entire product lifecycle and getting Parker products to market faster.”

The Parker-Hannifin Strategic Parts Management Initiative

With the intent of streamlining the use of 3D parts, Parker teamed up with CADENAS to introduce an enterprise-wide “Strategic Part Management” project, using a centralized database of 3D parts and data from which engineers can easily find and reuse the component they need. The end goal is to promote divisional and interdivisional re-use of parts as well as give purchasing visibility to enterprise quantities of standard parts.

The two organizations launched a Strategic Parts Management initiative across several Parker divisions, providing visibility and tracking of parts used in Parker designs. The project’s payoff is the ability to easily reuse internal components across all Parker divisions, as well as reduced time finding parts and new savings through volume purchase agreements.

Prior to the introduction of SPM, there was limited ability for Parker’s procurement and engineering to see which parts were available from other Parker divisions. This made it difficult for purchasing departments to identify volume purchase opportunities. Engineers also had little ability to access engineering data from other divisions, creating silos of duplicate and obsolete data. This created an opportunity for Parker to add part visibility for all divisions, eliminating the proliferation of duplicate parts and local part numbering schemas.

To accomplish this, all divisions of Parker are being brought onto a common Parts Management System using CADENAS technologies. CADENAS serves as the platform to find and re-use common parts with an enterprise part numbering strategy.

Winning this award puts Parker-Hannifin in the running for “Manufacturing Leadership High Achiever Award” and “Manufacturing Leadership Manufacturer of the Year Award” to be announced on June 8, 2016 at the Manufacturing Leadership Awards Gala in Carlsbad California.

About The Manufacturing Leadership Awards

The Manufacturing Leadership Awards, now in their 12th year, honor manufacturing companies and individual manufacturing leaders that are shaping the future of global manufacturing. Winning projects and individual manufacturing leaders have demonstrated achievement in one of a wide range of categories, and are chosen by a panel of expert judges for results that enabled the manufacturers to set themselves apart from their competitors and that have delivered clear and compelling value, return on investment, and other tangible outcomes. There are several winners in each category.

In addition to selecting winners in each awards category, the judges will vote on one High Achiever’s Award in each category, as well as a 2015 Manufacturer of the Year for both small and large enterprises.

Manufacturer of the Year, along with the top-scoring project in each category, will be announced at the 12th Annual Manufacturing Leadership Awards Gala on June 8, 2016, during the Manufacturing Leadership Summit, taking place June 6-9, 2016 at the Omni la Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, CA.

The theme for the 12th Annual Manufacturing Leadership Summit is “Manufacturing 4.0: The New Rules of Leadership.” The event enables senior-level executives in all aspects of manufacturing an opportunity to network with and learn from the best minds in the industry. The format consists of roundtables, networking events, and unique question-and-answer sessions designed to provide the tools and ideas necessary to solve today’s manufacturing challenges and to explore revolutionary new opportunities.
