Chapter 1. General notes

  • Information on version 12

  • Complete package

The installer has been completely revised for V12 and is provided in the form of *.msi packages.

The first number behind the package name designates the V12 version. This is followed by the service pack number, followed by the build number.

    Example for V12.6:

    partsolutions_enterprise_12.6.217689.msi

Existing PARTsolutions versions are regularly developed and shall be available as soon as possible. Such updates always present a complete package which mostly contains CAD/PDM-Features besides the PARTsolutions Software.

    • MAJOR Updates (version) = all encompassing new versions of the CADENAS Software, in connection with a version change, which pertains to the first version number (for a V12 that means 12).

      [Note]Note

For major updates (for example V11 to V12) the license will not change, except new Apps, for example a web client, have been added. Information on licenses can be found underSection 7.4, “ Licensing”.

V12 has basic changes so that in most instances a de-installation of the existing V11 version is recommended. Besides the notes given in this chapter please ensure that you also observe the notes under Change to V12 (Consulting) in Change to V12 (Consulting) in PARTsolutions - Administration Manual.

    • MINOR Updates (subversion) are smaller software modifications (e.g. V12 SP5 to V12.6).[1]

      [Note]Note

If the installer of the same version is started, the dialog box Change, repair or remove installation. (Via Windows Start menu -> Add or remove programs -> Modify this dialog is also opened.)

      Change, repair, or remove installation

      Change, repair, or remove installation

If a newer version of the MSI is installed, the old one is AUTOMATICALLY updated. (The same dialogs as for the first installation will appear.) Program data will be completely changed, including setup files

Important: Files of SiteSetup will remain. That's why changes should never be performed outside SiteSetup. When working via PARTadmin this is ensured.

  • [Important]Important

Basically a backup of the existing installation (data, database and software) is highly recommended!

  • [Important]Important

All adjustments made in standard vbs scripts or ini files will not be taken over during an update!

This can then for example affect ERP adjustments, as well as the CAD interface (iface folder). No "Merging" takes place.

    Please urgently secure these scripts!

  • [Important]Important

When updating the client, absolutely also update the server so that both have the same version. CADENAS_SETUP, Scripts, resources come from the server!

  • During installation NO users may access PARTsolutions!

As soon as PARTsolutions is open at a workstation, the most different DLLs are accessible and can not be "touched" by the installation process.

    An error message shows up.

  • Software, catalogs and classification can be downloaded under https://partupdate.cadenas.de.

  • Relation between software and index:

When updating to V12 the Geo index should be created from the scratch, not only updated in order to benefit from many improvements. Details on this can be found under Section 7, “GeoDb” in PARTsolutions - Administration Manual.

[1] The naming for subversions changed as of V12.6. The subversion follows the main version separated by dot.
