The LinkDB establishes the connection between the geometric data of standard and supplier catalogs and ERP/PDM data [1]from different systems and databases without endangering the integrity of either system.
Advantages, that arise from using the LinkDB:
Use of a user-role concept with display of preferred parts and export criteria helps control use of parts.
Separation of geometric data and additional data
Part variants are saved in the LinkDB and not in the original tables. This ensures catalog updates to be carried out without the danger of loss of data.
Incorporate classifications (perhaps already available in ERP)
Integration / classification of any data (PARTwarehouse)
=> Enhancement of search options, thus increasing reuse of own parts
Turntable - all information at a glance
User and role dependant, different views of the data inventory
This specific information should be available at every workstation.
For example: Purchasing profits from targeted part comparison (in cooperation with the geometrical search)
