1.4.4.5. "Named User" ("Dynamic User") tabbed page

"Named User" licenses represent "centrally managable" nodelocked licenses. They are bound to the FLM server, just like normal "floating" licenses. Other than floating licenses, they are not released after a module terminates. Each instance of a named user license is bound to a user account permanently. The assignment is done automatically when a client requests a license for the specific product. Existing assignments can be changed here, after a minimum hold time has passed.

"Named User" tabbed page

Tabbed page Named User: In the dialog area Named-User Products, in the column Product, all products are listed.[23] The columns Assigned count, remaining free, Total and Latest change show additional information for each license product.

The number of active sessions may not exceed the total number of licenses.

If a license is required and all are already assigned (value in column Assigned count == value in column Total), a respective message is displayed. In this case you have to administratively assign another user's license by Replace. However, this can only take place if a session has been finished and so is free again.

Dialog area Assigned users:

  • User: All users are listed regardless of assignment type (up to the total number of licenses).

  • Date of assignment:

Once a client requires a license, it is dynamically assigned from the pool of available licenses. The current date is entered.

  • Locked until:

The blocking period starts with assignment and is 30 days.

Exception: For automatic assignment, the blocking period is only 1 day. After 1 day a re-assignment could be performed in favour of another user. Afterwards the 30-day blocking period applies.

Once the blocking period expires, the license can be assigned to a new user.

"Assigned users" and "Known users": Blocking period in this example with automatic assignment is 1 day

"Assigned users" and "Known users": Blocking period in this example with automatic assignment is 1 day

  • Assignment type:

For each license product there are two possible base settings:

    1. Assign automatically? = Yes

The checkbox in the column Assign automatically? is activated. This is the default setting.

All users which ever accessed the license server are listed under Known users. All users to whom a license has been assigned are displayed under Assigned users. (There is no automatic removing of users. This can only be performed manually.)

In the column Assignment type, "automatic" is displayed.

      [Note]Note

Assign automaticallyAutomatic assignment only works until all licenses have been assigned. Then an administrative interaction by Replace is required.

Users whose blocking period expired can be replaced. Initially it means that the license is reserved for the new user, but possibly is not immediately available, only if any license has been released by ending a session.

When a user has not been online for more than 200 days, the license assigned to him is considered for auto-reassignment again, if a new unknown user comes in. That license which has not been used for the longest time is used.

    2. Assign automatically? = No

The checkbox in the column Assign automatically? is deactivated.

In this case the desired user has to be manually assigned for a certain license product by administration.

All users which ever accessed the license server are listed under Known users. If the desired user is not yet listed, add him via input field and click on the Add button.

      1. Select a license product.

      2. In the dialog area Known users, select the desired user.

Should the list be very long then you can filter by any text string of the user name.

      3. In the dialog area Assigned users, insert the user by clicking on Add or Replace. In the column Assignment type, "Manually" is displayed.

        [Note]Note

Replace is only possible when the blocking period has ended.

      4. Once everything is set up correctly, click on Save.

        Save...

        Save...

        [Note]Note

If you have performed changes by mistake, leave the dialog without saving; as, even if you restore the initial situation and save, a new lock wait is inserted.

Via Remove you can remove a user from the dialog area Assigned users again, which has been added by clicking on Add; however only as long as you did not save yet.

Independently of the setting under Assign automatically?, another user can be assigned by Replace if the blocking period has ended.

[23] Named User licenses have the token 'D' at the end of the product code.
