1.5.1.3.2.3.  Graphical Assembly Editor

The graphical assembly editor clearly displays the entire assembly structure with parts, connection points and rules in a separate window. If an element is selected, it is also highlighted in the configurator [Configurator], 3D view and assembly [Assembly] docking window (structure list) so that it can be changed at any time during the work process.

The following small example shows how to insert a new component into an existing assembly and link it using a rule.

  1. Open the desired Assembly Configuration.

    -> PARTdesigner is opened.

  2. Click in PARTdesigner view [View] menu, click on Graphical assembly editor [Graphical Assembly Editor].

    -> The Editor opens.

  3. Click on the Insert component [Add Part] button button in the toolbar.

    -> The Explorer is opened.

  4. Select the desired part in the Explorer and click Open.

    -> The Part properties dialog box opens.

  5. Enter a unique name under Description and Formula name [Equation name] and confirm with OK.

    -> First the part is inserted top left in the Editor.

  6. Select the connection point of a part to which it is to be connected using a rule and then click on the New rule context menu command.

    -> A red line is attached to the cursor starting from the selected connection point.

  7. Move the line to the newly inserted part and perform a click on the part or one of its connection points.

    -> The Rule properties dialog box opens.

  8. Enter a name for the rule.

    If you clicked on the part, it is already selected under Connection part. If you clicked on a connection point, the setting has already been made both under Connection part and Connection point.

    When the part and point are selected, confirm with OK.

    -> The edge between source and target part is displayed.

  9. Click on the Arrange automatically button.

  10. Use the search function in the configurator [Configurator] to quickly find the arranged part in a large assembly.
