7.8.2.  Add new variable

In order to create a new variable there are two options:

  • Add new: Click on the button to clear the input fields.

  • Add copy: You can use this function to explicitly specify that no changes are made to the displayed values when you enter the name, i.e. the values of another desired variable are retained.

Add new variable

  1. In the list field, select the function Add new or click on the button again if it is already selected.

-> The input area is opened (if not yet opened).

-> The input fields are cleared.

  2. Enter the name of the new variable under Name.

    [Note]Note

If the variable already exists, the message Name not unique [Name not unique!] appears ! [Name not unique!]

    [Note]Note

When trying to enter NB, KT or LINA, the message Variable name is invalid [Variable name is not valid] appears.

    [Note]Note

Furthermore do not use the following variables, since it may cause problems:

    NN, NT, VARIANT, VARSET, VERSION

  3. Specify the variable parameters.

    [Note]Note

In the Description field, a list of frequently used terms can be used by means of a dictionary for faster processing. You can find more information here.

    [Note]Note

With the "Only in geometry [Only in geometry] " storage location [Save location], some details are (initially) not required and the corresponding input fields are deactivated (grayed out).

    [Note]Note

The variable requires a value, otherwise an error message will appear later in the QA check dialog box during testing.

Select a table row. This automatically assigns a value to the variable, which is displayed under Formula [Equation].

  4. Confirm your entries by clicking on the Add variable button.

-> The new variable is added to the variable list.

-> If the storage location [Save location] is "Only in table [Only in table] " or "In geometry and table [In geometry and table] ", the new variable is immediately displayed in the characteristic attribute table (in the last position). Using Sort variables you can change the position in the characteristic attribute table (not in the variable manager) as required.

-> If a variable is intended for use in the geometry (i.e. storage location [Save location] "Only in geometry [Only in geometry] " or "In geometry and table [In geometry and table] "), the name is marked with an asterisk as long as the variable has not yet been used.

Add variable copy

  1. In the table, select that variable whose values you want to use for the new variable.

  2. In the list field, select the function Add copy or click on the button again if it is already selected.

  3. Enter the variable name under Name.

When using this variant the displayed values are kept unchanged.
