7.6.2.12.6.4. Maximum radius of chamfer/rounding
Blend from just one side

If a chamfer/rounding with radius "a" is to be applied to a feature with shoulder height "h", the following applies:

a <= h

The distance of measured planes (shoulder height "h") is 4 mm here.

  1. Initial situation:

    The distance between the measured levels (shoulder height "h") is 4 mm here.

    Shoulder height 4 mm

    Shoulder height 4 mm

  2. Selection of the desired edge and definition of the chamfer/rounding radius [Radius] "a" (here 6 mm)

    Edge selected and radius 6 mm

    Edge selected and radius 6 mm

  3. Result:

    This approach results in errors.

The same applies for chamfers.

Blend from both sides

If two chamfers/roundings with radius "a" and "b" are to be applied to a feature with shoulder height "h", the following applies:

a+b <= h

Otherwise an errors occurs (see following figures).

  1. The distance of measured planes (shoulder height "h") is 4 mm here.

    Shoulder height 4 mm

    Shoulder height 4 mm

  2. Selection of the two edges and definition of the chamfer/rounding radii "a" and "b" (here 3 mm)

  3. This approach results in errors again.

The same applies for chamfers.
