4.4.1.1.1. "Search" tabbed page

In the following the setting options on the Search tabbed page are explained:

Restrict search

Optionally you can determine the catalog or directory to search under Search in.

Advantage: Exclusion of unwanted search results and a certain speed benefit.

Select one of the following options in the list field:

  • all catalogs (default)

  • all classifications

  • all native catalogs

  • all catalogs classifications

  • Current selection (the directory selected on the Catalogs tabbed page)

  • Custom selection...

Searching for parts or parts and part families?

In the list field select one of the two options under Search for:

  • Search for parts

    If the search has been specified by any means, then this option is advantageous.

    Examples:

    • Full-text search with the following search term:

      Hexagon bolt D=10 L=50

    • Geometric search (3D)

      Also here a concrete characteristic is used.

    • Searching in own part catalogs

      Often a project only consists of one single line (characteristic) or heterogenous parts with completely different shape are combined in a classification project. In both cases searching for parts would be advantageous.

  • Search for parts and part families

    If you do not specify the search in a first step this option is better, because all single characteristics are collected in a part family.

    When you click on the plus sign, the part family opens and you can see the contained parts.

    When you click on the plus sign, the part family opens and you can see the contained parts.

    You can determine the characteristic in a later step. Via double-click on a part this is opened on the View tabbed page. See Section 4.4.1.1.4, “"View" tabbed page - Variable list | 3D view | 2D derivation ”.

Search methods

Basically there are two possibilities: Manual searching of directories or using an automated search method.

Start search

Search results

Below the "Start search" button the search results are listed.

When you move the mouse over a line the respective buttons are displayed. After line selection and click with the secondary mouse button the context menu opens.

In the following the individual commands are described:

Open:

The view switches to the View tabbed page (alternatively you can perform a double-click.)

On the level of part families initially a middle line is displayed, on the level of parts the specific part is displayed.

The command is available as button and in the context menu.

Add to part compare / Compare

The Part comparison dialog box opens and the Seamless dialog area is now displayed in one window together with the Part comparison. As soon as the Part comparison is closed, the original Seamless display appears again.[a]

The command is available as button and in the context menu.

Export to CAD:

The part is directly transferred to the CAD system. The placement dialog opens (see Section 2.6.1, “ Insert model (3D) from the Standard and supplier parts library ” in PARTsolutions - User manual).

The command is only available for parts (characteristics), not for part families.

Add to favorites ...

Save often needed parts as favorites.

The command is both available on the level of part families and on the level of parts.

The command is only available in the context menu.

[a] Whether Seamless shall be displayed on the left or right side of Part comparison, can be set via configuration file. On this see Section 1.7.4.9.18, “ Key "SeamlessWindowInCompareSide" - Seamless - Part comparison | Right-left setting” in PARTsolutions - Administration Manual.

Depending on the setting of Show parts or Show parts and part families (compare above) access on parts differs. Whether a project (part or assembly) is displayed or a specific characteristic you can recognize by the respective icon:

  • Part or assembly

  • Specific characteristic

Show more results ...

If more than 50 results are available[51] the button Show more results ... appears at the page end. Normally the desired results are under the first hits. However if you want to see more results, successively click on Show more results ... or click on Show all results....
