1.4.5.5.2. Application Scenarios

The AppServer cache is an edge proxy: It is assigned its own hostname and SSL certificate and is deployed at a location directly in front of the clients there. Instead of contacting the central AppServer, the clients at a given location communicate with their local cache server. This server handles SSL termination itself, caches the decrypted responses locally, and thereby reduces data transfer over slow or expensive site connections (WAN).

A
central main site with AppServer and $CADENAS_DATA is connected to
multiple sites via a slow WAN. Locations with
a local cache server fulfill requests from the
local cache (fast) after the first access; a location without a cache server reloads each
            request over the WAN (slow).
