Within eCATALOG 3Dfindit, surface attributes are used to specifically mark individual surfaces of a 3D model and provide them with additional information. In this way, geometric areas of a component can be clearly identified and made usable for downstream processes.
As part of the catalog creation process, surface attributes enable a structured description of functionally relevant surfaces, for example for connection, assembly or processing purposes. The information is then available in the generated CAD models and can be used by users in their respective CAD systems.
This chapter describes the basic concepts of surface attributes as well as their definition and use within eCATALOG 3Dfindit. The aim is to create a uniform understanding of the use of surface attributes and to ensure that they are used correctly when creating models.
