3D STEP / CAD data does not contain attributes

BOM information is essential for the procurement process. Generated from the engineer’s design data, it includes all the important attributes needed for purchasing, e.g.: part number, manufacturer, designation. STEP data does not include any attributes. If STEP data is used in the design, the purchaser will be missing needed information in the BOM.
